We want you to see what you are receiving. ) History: The Bear Manufacturing Company was started as an auto luggage rack producer in Rock Island, Illinois, in 1917. The company used the slogan “Let Bear Lug Your Luggage.” In the 1920s, the company started manufacturing wheel alignment tools. That’s when they, reputably, developed the Happy Bear character / logo. The company started a training school for mechanics. Graduates and other customers used the logo to indicate they offered Bear Safety Service. That is, to let the public know the auto shop’s mechanics had been trained by Bear and that they used Bear wheel alignment and diagnostic tools. It is not clear when Bear Manufacturing Company became the Bear Automotive Service Equipment Company. Bear Automotive Equipment is now a subsidiary of Cartek Group and is based in Kalamazoo, MI.
