Because the company was founded in 1902 or shortly thereafter and changed its name in 1918, we can date the paperweight to that period. History: The Kahn System of structural concrete reinforcement was invented by Julius Kahn whose patent application for the system is dated December 11, 1902. ( Julius was the brother of Albert Kahn, the architect of iconic building such as the Packard and Ford plants in Detroit. ) The Kahn Bar, his invention, was a unique steel bar design / reinforcement that addressed the weakness of early concrete. The Trussed Concrete Steel Company, based in Detroit, was formed shortly after. In 1918, it was renamed the Truscon Steel Company. It was acquired by Republic Steel in the 1930s. Interestingly / reputably, after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire, buildings built using the Kahn System were left standing. About 1 3/4 x 2 3/4 x 3/4 inches
