Lot 71 Heinz 57 Tomato Man Mr. Aristocrat Advertising Paperweight

This version of Mr. Aristocrat was a point of sale advertising display or paperweight. It is marked Heinz on the front and 57 on the other three sides. It is not dated. The advertising ran during the 1930s. History: In 1934, the Maxon ad agency (Detroit) created the iconic Tomato Man aka Mr. Aristocrat to personify and promote the high quality of Heinz tomato products. He appeared in advertisements dressed as a cowboy, Scotsman, etc. Mr. Aristocrat was Heniz’s first spokesman, a classy figure also available on cuff links and clocks. Condition report:

Overall in excellent condition. The monocle on the left eye exhibits a white spot, likely a paint chip. With one exception ( which appears repainted ), all examples previously sold - located on Worthpoint, which reports eBay sales - have a similar chip. The white paint probably did not adhere to the rubber and / or base coat correctly.
