History: THE BULLARD MACHINE TOOL COMPANY, founded in 1880 as Bridgeport Machine Tool Works, was incorporated in 1884. The company was re-named The Bullard Company in 1929. Under the leadership of E.P. Bullard Jr., the company developed an innovative Vertical Turret Lathe aka the Bullard Mult-Au-Matic. It was an early automated machine tool manufacturing device, perhaps a predecessor of the CNC – computer numerical control – machines used today.
